Organised by the University Scholars Club (USC), USP Freshmen Orientation Programme aims to integrate USP freshmen into our community as the new academic year approaches. The freshmen will be exposed to the wide range of opportunities that USP provides and the diversity of people here in USP. They will, hopefully, be encouraged to get involved, shape, and develop our community.

There is a series of coordinated events to orientate USP freshmen for the new academic year, timeline as such:

9 Jun: Scholaris >> 5-7 Jul: OCamp >>29 Jul-1 Aug: OWeek>> Mid Aug: Welcome Dinner

Permaculture@USP: Gardener’s Basic Workshop

USProductions 2016: Less Than Three & 404 Not Found

USProductions by USP students proudly presents a double bill “404: Not Found” and “Less Than Three. Issues surrounding identity and social media take center stage in both plays – “404 Not Found” takes on a more solemn insight to the concept of self in social media while “Less Than Three” presents a light-hearted comedy between two individuals.

USP-Piper Introduction to Creative Writing Workshop

As part of our outreach effort, this three-morning introductory workshop is organised for students from the Junior Colleges and Integrated Programme schools. The workshop is conducted by two Master in Fine Arts students from the Arizona State University’s Piper Center – Ms Cheyenne Black and Ms Susan Nguyen. By the end of the workshop, participants will have read some published short stories, completed writing exercises (both individually and collaboratively), and written (part of) a short story or poem.

Writing That Moves Us – A Writing Workshop with USP writer-in-residence, Gitanjali Kolanad

This is a writing course where the focus is on the process. It will explore states of flow leading to ‘aha’ moments, where the words we write surprise us. There is no restriction on genre. As a participant, you can try your hand at poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction, memoir. You will not be sitting down and listening in this class. Instead, you will be combining reading, focused discussion and writing with a physical practice.

Kalaripayat – Indian Martial Art Workshop

Kalaripayat, the martial art form from Kerala, is known for dance-like fighting sequences that combine fluid grace and power. Kalari trains the practitioner in focus and concentration along with strength and flexibility. The ultimate goal of practice is to refine the process of awareness, bringing a state of heightened perception ‘when the body becomes all eyes’. USP’s writer-in-residence Gitanjali Kolanad, who has been practising kalari for thirty years, will teach the basics of the form. To sign up, please register HERE.
