Brief Introduction

A/P Johan Geertsema joined USP in 2001. He has designed and taught a number of USP Writing and Critical Thinking (WCT) as well as Inquiry Tier modules. These modules are all informed by his research interests in literature and culture.

From 2004 to 2012, he was the editor of folio, which publishes writing produced by WCT students, and from 2011 to 2014, he acted as coordinator of the WCT. In 2015, he was appointed Director of the NUS Centre for Development of Teaching and Learning (CDTL), which is tasked with academic/faculty development at NUS. Over the years, he has developed a keen interest in higher education, especially in research-intensive contexts. His current research focuses on the importance of knowledge, expertise, and research for teaching; the meaning of student success and how to foster it; and what good teaching is. He serves as a Residential Fellow at Cinnamon College (USP) and in 2021, he was appointed Director of Studies at Ridge View Residential College.
