Dancing, Fighting & Writing: Lessons from the Body Captured in Words
The Arts House, Play DenMs Gitanjali Kolanad, USP and The Arts House writer-in-residence 2016, presents her final showcase marking the end of her six month residency where she had been working on her first novel, Girl Made of Gold. The novel explores the world of the devadasi, the hereditary temple dancer, in the 1920s. A reading of the new novel will be punctuated with performances by Ms Gitanjali together with Kalaripayat artist Hans Wolfgramm, Bharata Natyam dancer Katyaini Reddy, Percussionist Benjamin Boo and Nattuvanar Maalika Panicker. This multidisciplinary showcase will also examine how Indian movement traditions bring a sensory awareness of time, space and the body that can enliven one's writing.
