Information Session for NEW USP Study Trips to China and Thailand

USP will offer new study trips to China (Zhejiang University – Chu Kochen Honors College) and Thailand (Chiang Mai University) in May and June 2019. In China, students will examine the concepts of strategic leadership and innovation with top-notch Chinese professors in their areas of expertise: innovation and strategic management, brain sciences and society, environment and the arts. In Thailand, students will get an opportunity to study with the local experts on the pressing issues in Chiang Mai, where agricultural and industrial growth, and rapid economic development is posing problems for the environment, culture and society. Quantitative Reasoning (QR) Talk – Cancer Research: The Hunt for Significant p-values

The QR Centre is organising a talk titled "Cancer Research: The Hunt for Significant p-values" by Mr Wouter van Loocke from the Centre for Medical Genetics at Ghent University in Belgium. Mr Loocke will be sharing his expertise on the application of biostatistics and biostatistics software on cancer research, as well as some of his latest findings in the field. It will be followed by a screening of "Gattaca". All are welcome, so come join this session for a lively discussion on an important topic, and if you can, stay for the movie too!

Futures Thinking Workshop

A group of USP students and alums are participating in this four-day Futures Thinking Workshop organised by USP adjunct lecturer Mr Aaron Maniam. The workshop explores why planning for the future is necessary in an increasingly VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous) world, how such planning can be done in terms of tools, techniques and methodologies, and how attendees can apply futures thinking to their personal life, academic work and issues of current interest in Singapore. Practitioners of futures thinking are also invited to the workshop for participants to meet and network.

"Soil"  (Workshop 2 of 4)   Just what is soil? Soil is an amazing substance, a complex mix of minerals, air, water and countless microorganisms. Most of our food comes directly or indirectly from plants anchored in, and nourished by soil. In this workshop, USP alum Alexius Yeo (Geography + USP, Class of 2010) will challenge the predominant understanding of soil through the lens of permaculture and reveal the secrets to organic farming.
