Freshmen Orientation Programme: Scholaris
Chua Thian Poh Hall, USPOrganised by the University Scholars Club (USC), USP Freshmen Orientation Programme aims to integrate USP freshmen into our community as the new academic year approaches. The freshmen will be exposed to the wide range of opportunities that USP provides and the diversity of people here in USP. They will, hopefully, be encouraged to get involved, shape, and develop our community. Unplug and Wiggle Butts (Dog Interaction Session)
Chua Thian Poh Hall, USPCome, join this last dog interaction session for the semester! This is an initiative to collaborate with residents at Medway Park (just right next to UTown) to walk their dogs into our campus and interact with the dogs closely. Each interaction session will last about 45mins at the Chua Thian Poh Hall or around the USP amphitheatre. This session is subject to weather condition. Laissez Faire V: “Lazy” Faire
Chua Thian Poh Hall, USPLaissez Faire, a Ground-Up Initiative (GUI) event, acts as a “free market” for our students and staff to share their talents and skills with our community for free. This event aims to foster our community spirit while allowing students and staff to showcase their talents, and hopefully, in the process, encourage meaningful conversations and relationships to be built. Permaculture@USP Symposium 2019: SustaiNIBBLES
Chua Thian Poh Hall, USPCome and join Permaculture@USP’s inaugural symposium, “SustaiNIBBLES”. The objective of the event is to educate participants about sustainable food production in Singapore, encourage awareness and a sustainable mindset and teach participants how to start a small garden in their homes. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from local niche food producers and experts (among which is Prof Maharaj Pandit, our Ngee Ann Kongsi Distinguished Visiting Professor) who are challenging the notions of sustainable food production and inspiring the next green wave of Singapore food entrepreneurs. There will also be a microgreens workshop for all participants to learn how to produce nutritious food. This event is open to NUS students, staff and public. UNITAS Inter-house Games
Chua Thian Poh Hall, USPOrganised by the University Scholars Club (USC), the Inter-House Games 2019 will run two activities concurrently – the Vertical Relay and CTPH Games (Chess, Super Smash Bros and Overcooked). Join for a night of fun with your friends and win attractive prizes! Light refreshments and drinks will be provided for all participants.
USP Independent Study Modules (ISM) Annual Showcase 2019
Chua Thian Poh Hall, USPISMs are independent research opportunities to explore a specialised area of interest and an academic requirement for all USP students. Some USP students who have done their ISMs will be sharing their personal experiences and providing practical advice for those who are embarking on an ISM in the form of “Human Library” activity – where a “book” (speaker) and several “readers” (participants) are grouped together, and the former shares information with the latter on a particular topic. Do come and hear what these seniors have to say about the ISM experience!

Canine Chums @ USP
Chua Thian Poh Hall, USPOrganised by Love, USP, this event is a collaboration with SoSD, a non-profit organisation striving to change the plight of street dogs in Singapore. The volunteers from SoSD will bring along their canine pals and share about the roles we can play in changing perceptions about how homeless animals are regarded in Singapore.

USP Academic Advisory Tea

The Sessions: Job Security in an Era of Technological Disruptions
Chua Thian Poh Hall, USPIn view of our transition into a technological era governed by Big Data, Industry 4.0 and Internet of Things (IOT), our economy and society is experiencing disruptions on many fronts and is in a constant state of flux. The Sessions student team has invited three panellists – Mr Amit Gupta (Chief of Electrical Rolls Royce), Mr Harveen (CEO, Kommerce) and Ms Jasmine Seng (Mangement Consultant, Accenture). The panel discussion will look into the issues of how the workplace is being disrupted, where are the bright spots that you can leverage on and how you can better prepare for the advent of a technological era.

The Sessions – UnConference
Chua Thian Poh Hall, USP“UnConference” means Unconventional Conference. It is a one-day discussion on the topic of “interdisciplinary education” – a buzz phrase today but what does it really mean? How about multi-disciplinarity? Is there still room for lone field expertise? Through unique discussion formats, participants get to gain new perspectives and ideas and opportunities to gather with students from NUS-USP, NTU-USP, SMU-X, SUTD and Yale-NUS!

Crossing the Chasm Challenge 2017 Final
Chua Thian Poh Hall, USPThe Crossing the Chasm Challenge (CCC) 2017 is jointly organised by the Asia Centre for Social Entrepreneurship and Philanthropy and the Chua Thian Poh Community Leadership Programme (CTPCLP). Chua Thian Poh Community Leadership Programme (CTPCLP) Symposium 2017
Chua Thian Poh Hall, USPThe CTPCLP holds its symposium annually to provide a platform for its fellows to present and share the knowledge and experiences they have gained from their social research and/or community development projects. At the same time, the symposium hopes to reach out to and inspire more NUS students to take on the responsibility to address social issues in Singapore. The CTPCLP fellows, some of whom are also USP students, will discuss the field research projects they have undertaken with various social service organisations. Thereafter, Guest-of-Honour Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, Ms Grace Fu, will engage with participants in a dialogue. We urge USP students to join in this conversation with her. CTPCLP is based in and supported by USP.

The Sessions – “YOUTHSpeak: A Post-Budget Dialogue” in Collaboration with PAYM
Chua Thian Poh Hall, USPIn collaboration with People’s Association Youth Movement (PAYM), The Sessions will play host and bring to USP a “YOUTHSpeak” post-Budget dialogue session. Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam (Deputy Prime Minister), Ms Grace Foo (Minister for Culture, Community and Youth) and other Members of Parliament in the west of Singapore are the guests for this dialogue. The aim of the dialogue is to provide a platform for USP students and youths from the various institutions and organisations to share their views and feedback on the Singapore Budget initiatives, as well as to network with other like-minded youths. Through this process, USP students and PAYM hope youths will gain insight on and deepen their interests in current affairs, and specifically, understand the trade-off in policy-making.

Chua Thian Poh Hall, USPKalaripayat, the martial art form from Kerala, is known for dance-like fighting sequences that combine fluid grace and power. Kalari trains the practitioner in focus and concentration along with strength and flexibility. The ultimate goal of practice is to refine the process of awareness, bringing a state of heightened perception 'when the body becomes all eyes'. USP’s writer-in-residence Gitanjali Kolanad, who has been practising kalari for thirty years, will teach the basics of the form. To sign up, please register HERE.
