Chu Kochen Honors College (CKC)-USP Summer Seminar: Strategic Leadership, Innovation and Society 2020

An experiential for-credit programme, this 8-day online seminar will broadly cover the basic concepts of future leadership and topics in computer sciences, life sciences, medicine, innovation and strategic management, sociology and environmental arts. A more rigorous version based on last year’s pilot programme, students will learn from leading professors from Zhejiang University and NUS in their areas of expertise, as well as alongside CKC and USP students. Aside from the regular classes, there will be 3-4 evening sessions set aside for discussions, and cultural and historical virtual tour of places in Hangzhou, China and Singapore.

COVID-time Storytelling

After a successful first session on 20 Jun, our USP alums will get together again to continue this discussion series on “What have you seen emerging in these COVID-times, that wasn’t possible before? Moving forward, what would you like to keep?”. Different USP alums will share their stories in each session, and all will participate in an open discussion. This session welcomes any USP alumni, graduating batch and faculty members, but is limited to a capacity of about 20 to allow better engagement.

Organised by the University Scholars Club (USC), the USP e-Freshmen Orientation Programme (FOP) – Orientation Camp (O’Camp) will build on the friendships developed among the freshmen during e-Scholaris (held earlier on 7 Jun 2020 and attended by close to 200 freshmen), to further integrate them into our close-knit community. The USP seniors are also incorporating Minecraft to make the experience for freshmen more interesting and engaging this time round!

Exporting a Singapore Brand” by Mr Jesher Loi, Market Development Director, Branding at Ya Kun International

Organised by The Cinnamon Conversation interest group, this is a series of informal and relaxed conversations over dinner. At this session, they will be hosting Mr Jesher Loi, Director of Branding and Market Development at Ya Kun International Pte Ltd. Do join Mr Loi in a discussion on his journey to build and internationalising a local heritage brand like Ya Kun, the challenges he faced and his plans in contributing to the society. “Applying Programming to the Humanities” by USP Alum Eddie Choo

Organised by The Cinnamon Conversation interest group, this is a series of informal, interactive and insighful discussions on specialised themes. At this session, USP alum Eddie Choo (Sociology + USP, Class of 2012), currently a Research Associate at the NUS Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKYSPP), will share about how he learnt coding without any technical background and some thoughts about how they can be combines with inquiries in the social sciences and humanities. There will also be a practical session for coding during the session.

Join The Sessions as they host our USP alum Dr Li Jingmei (Life Sciences + USP, Class of 2006) for a casual conversation on her career as a senior researcher at A*STAR specialising in genetics and has notably been featured on advertisements highlighting her achievements in decoding genes to fight cancer.
