Twelve USP students travel to Japan for this interdisciplinary programme that aims to explore the cross-sections of both the traditions and modern technologies in different fields. Japan as a country is at this very intersection\, a country that is steeped in its own traditions and cultures\, yet still constantly on the forefront of modern technological breakthroughs and advancements. \nThe programme will bring students through Nagoya and Tokyo\, as well as more rural areas such as Suzaka and Kiso Valley.

Pandit to share with us on “Climate Change and Cultural Extinction in the Himalayan Highlands”. The Himalaya\, also known as the ‘third pole’\, harbors the largest glacier mass outside of the two poles. The mountains are under the international media spotlight\, for an alarming report predicts a sea level rise of 1.5 meters driven by melting of the Himalayan glaciers. There are also reports about these ice-fields disappearing by 2035. This session will also discuss what does Himalayan warming mean for the sustainability of South and Southeast Asia\, and Singapore. \nAll USP students are encouraged to attend this session. DESCRIPTION:We will open our premises to visitors on NUS Open Day 2019. Our USP booth will be located at Chua Thian Poh Hall\, and planned activities will happen throughout the day in and around USP. There will be three talk sessions at the nearby UTown Auditorium 3. Two sessions will focus on USP at 11.00am and 2.00pm. The third session at 3.00pm will focus on the NUS-Sciences Po Double Degree Programme. DESCRIPTION:Come and join Permaculture@USP’s inaugural symposium\, “SustaiNIBBLES”. The objective of the event is to educate participants about sustainable food production in Singapore\, encourage awareness and a sustainable mindset and teach participants how to start a small garden in their homes. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from local niche food producers and experts (among which is Prof Maharaj Pandit\, our Ngee Ann Kongsi Distinguished Visiting Professor) who are challenging the notions of sustainable food production and inspiring the next green wave of Singapore food entrepreneurs.
