Organised by the USP Alumni Society, ChatterboxPro aims to bring back the long hours of chatting about anything and everything at Chatterbox. This session centres on the themes of heritage and national narratives. USP alum Maria Khoo Joseph (History + USP, Class of 2010), an Assistant Curator at Peranakan Museum, will be sharing about her work and whether SG50 presents an opportunity to look at Singapore’s history in a different light. Master’s Commons, USPThis is an interactive lecture focused on dispelling common stereotypes about the Middle East and teaching young Singaporeans how to approach Anglophone news coverage about current conflicts plaguing the region. An alumna of NUS FASS who had also studied at the USP, she completed her masters in Lebanon, where she lived for two years, volunteered in the West Bank, and has studied in Delhi, Damascus and Tehran. Master’s Commons, USPMr Ho Kwon Ping is Executive Chairman of Banyan Tree Holdings, Chairman of SMU, and an avid observer of all things Singapore, culminating in his appointment as the inaugural SR Nathan Fellow for the Study of Singapore. In a series of five lectures, Mr Ho spoke on various issues ranging from politics to security to identity, raising questions and giving his own take on the ways we can move forward. These lectures have recently been compiled and published in the book, The Ocean in a Drop - Singapore: The Next Fifty Years. In this dialogue with Mr Ho, come armed with curiosity and questions, and be prepared for an interactive discussion on the present and future of Singapore. Master’s Commons, USPThe Rector’s Programme (TRP) is a series of personal and professional development talks and networking sessions, which aims at developing USP students’ intellectual aspirations, career directions and social responsibility beyond the University. Through TRP, students will hopefully be encouraged and empowered to lead a purpose-driven, meaningful and impactful life, both in the workplace and in the community at large. Guest speakers from the corporate, non-profit and public sectors will come and share the challenges they face and how they navigate the fast-changing complex world.
