Congratulations to USP Class of 2020 and Class of 2021
Published: 1 July 2021
Heartiest congrats to our USP Class of 2020 and Class of 2021! You have done well and we are proud of you. Here, we share the congrats message from your USP professors, in hopes to encourage you to continually make an impact, big and small, in whatever you choose to do. All the best, we will see you soon as our valued alumni!
This year, the combined USP Commencement Ceremony for Class of 2020 and Class of 2021 was streamed online via NUS YouTube on the afternoon of 26 June 2021. This was an important occasion as we witnessed a major milestone of our students – of finishing their undergraduate studies and transiting into a new phase of their lives beyond USP and NUS. To make this occasion more meaningful and intimate, our USP graduates from both classes, USP professors and staff gathered on Kumospace, an interactive online platform for video chats, to watch the pre-recorded ceremony together. What's interesting is how the virtual space was replicated to resemble USP spaces like USP Chatterbox, USP Sign at the courtyard and even the Theme Rooms! Thanks to the hardwork of Miguel, Roger, Shao Jie, Jaymee and Jazreel (USP Class Representatives and graduates). Check out the screenshots of our “watch party” below!

Hear from our Valedictorians, and Award and Prize Recipients!
Wee Su-Ann (Law + USP)
Valedictorian
USP Class of 2021
“I’m really honoured to be nominated to be Valedictorian for the Class of 2021 and to be able to celebrate with the class of 2021 on their achievements! USP has been a place where I gained a lot of new perspectives and learnt to be a better scholar and leader. Being able to celebrate with, and thank the people who have provided me with the support and opportunities is an immense gift. I’m also grateful for the recognition of my non-academic achievements and contributions. I’m neither a member of the Honour Roll nor a First Class Honours, and I hope that this nomination serves as a positive message that the value you have as a person and as a student goes far beyond your academic achievements!”
Tan Yung Ern Joash (Economics + USP)

Our USP + Computing community is very close-knit: we've spent the past few years struggling together, helping one another, collaborating on projects, and offering sincere mutual advice. I've certainly learned plenty from these shared experiences, which played no small part in this achievement. All the best to everyone, as we proceed onto the next step of our respective journeys!"

It is in part due to these opportunities and the USP community that I ended up developing an insatiable curiosity about everything and anything, and especially philosophy! I hope that everyone in USP also gets the opportunity to learn about and/or pick up something new that they never expected themselves to. All the best to past and present batches of USP students!”

Loo Qile Sara (History + USP)
NUSS Medal for Outstanding Achievement and Izzuddin Taherally Prize
USP Class of 2021
“These awards bear testament to the array of opportunities to which I was exposed as a student in the NUS-Sciences Po DDP and the USP. I hope that the spaces in which I’ve intervened, such as mentorship, conversation-curation and writing have, despite limitations, been enriched in some ways, just as they’ve trained me to be a better problem solver and communicator. I barely knew what the USP offered upon matriculation (as it came as a ‘package’ with the DDP). But the USP faculty, community and opportunities turned out to play a huge role in defining my university experience with a distinctly dynamic and diverse character. I am thankful to NUSS and Dr Mustafa Izzuddin’s generosity for the awards. Like them, I will pay it forward.”
Lim Yick Liang Kagen (Psychology + USP)
Izzuddin Taherally Prize
USP Class of 2020
"I am deeply honoured to receive this prize. I am grateful for my USP education, and the many ways that I have been pushed by the classes and community to think broader, and serve others. Congratulations to my fellow USP graduates from the Class of 2020 and 2021 too!"
Toh Le Yi (Psychology + USP)
NUSS Medal for Outstanding Achievement
USP Class of 2020
“I’m grateful to receive the NUSS Medal for Outstanding Achievement in USP. It is in this warm and welcoming family that I understood what true learning entails and made friends who work hard and play hard alongside me :”) Thank you for all the conversations we’ve had, for each and every one of you has instilled in me a deep appreciation for diversity and uniqueness!”
Michelle Chan Yun Yee (History + USP)
Joanna Wong Gold Medal
USP Class of 2021
“I am honoured to receive the Joanna Wong Gold Medal. However, without all the individuals I have had the opportunity to interact and work with, this award would not have been possible. I have learnt so much from working with the curious, dedicated and caring individuals at the USP. I will look back at these memories with fondness while looking forward to continue learning from the USP!”
Joshi Atharv Abhay (Materials Science and Engineering + USP)
