USP Student Named Sportsboy of the Year

USP student Toh Wei Soong (Philosophy, Politics and Economics + USP, Class of 2023) clinched the Sportsboy of the Year award at Singapore Disability Sports Award 2019. Held on 6 August at Carlton Hotel, the ceremony was organised by Singapore Disability Sports Council (SDSC) and Haw Par Corporation.

Wei Soong, a double Asian Para Games gold medallist swimmer, was recognised for his outstanding performance in sports, commitment to the community and good character. His impressive achievements in swimming has garnered much attention and coverage over the years. Recently, he also received the inaugural Goh Chok Tong Enable Award 2019 and was featured in Singtel’s National Day video (watch here). While he trains and hopes to represent Singapore at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, he also spends much of his time sharing his experiences with youths and promoting disability sports.

As a USP freshman, Wei Soong is looking forward to be entering into university life and beginning a new experience as an NUS undergraduate taking the Philosophy, Politics and Economics major at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

Such an inspiration! We applaud his courageous spirit and will continue to cheer him on, wishing him all the best in his undergraduate studies and swimming competitions.
