USP alum Betty Tsai (Chemical Engineering + USP, Class of 2012) was honoured with the Young Chemical Engineer in Industry Award by the Institution of Chemical Engineers’ (IChemE) in Singapore, sponsored by Shell. Betty was recognised for her excellent research and publications. Her work at Procter & Gamble focuses on skincare consumer products, where she has designed the innovation process from start to finish.

Held on 21 October 2016 at Shangri-La Hotel, the annual IChemE Singapore Awards, supported by the Institution of Engineers Singapore, celebrate excellence, innovation and achievement in the chemical, biochemcial and process industries.

Here is a summary of Betty’s winning entry (highly commended by Mr Teo Soon Meng, Croda Singapore):

“Betty is an inspirational role model and has a genuine passion to develop people. With 12 years of research experience, Betty has shown remarkable achievements in multidisciplinary fields and exceptional talent for originality and disruptive innovation. Betty’s notable achievements are: developing a patent filed in micro fluidics for in-vitro fertilization and two patents in antibacterial innovation; publication in international scientific journal - Journal of Nanoparticle Research; the first-ever freshman to win the NUS Innovation and Research Award; First Place Award at the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Conference; Certificate of Recognition at US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).”
