USP Students Compete in Sembcorp-EMA Energy Challenge 2017

Three USP students together with a Chemical Engineering student formed a team to compete in this year’s Sembcorp-EMA Energy Challenge (SEEC). The team managed to clinch second runner-up position under the University category in the competition.

The team:
Lester Foo Shi En (Chemical Engineering + USP, Class of 2020)
Vanessa Lin Shaoyun (Chemical Engineering + USP, Class of 2020)
M Mayreshh (Chemical Engineering + USP, Class of 2020)
Quek Fu Sheng (Chemical Engineering, Class of 2020)

Held in conjunction with the Urban Sustainability R&D Congress 2017 on 29 June, the competition was jointly organised by Sembcorp and Energy Market Authority (EMA) to inspire engineering students for the power and energy sector. SEEC participants visited Sembcorp’s facilities to meet Sembcorp’s engineers and experience first-hand the different aspects of the power plant business. Participants were also given computer simulations of different power systems, and challenged to manage the systems with maximum profits, reliability and environmental sustainability.

Congrats to our budding power engineers – Lester, Vanessa and Mayreshh – for taking on this challenge!
