USP Receives a Gift to Establish the Syed Ahmad Khan AMU Memorial Prize

The University Scholars Programme (USP) is grateful to receive a generous gift from the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Alumni Association Singapore to establish the Syed Ahmad Khan AMU Memorial Prize.
The Prize is in celebration of the centennial founding of the Aligarh Muslim University in India and in honor of its founder Sir Syed Ahmad Khan who was a renowned philosopher, reformer and educationist in nineteenth-century British India. The signing ceremony took place on 11 March 2022 between George Abraham, Patron of the AMU Alumni Association Singapore and Associate Professor Kang Hway Chuan, Director of USP. Also in attendance were Hina Haris, Secretary of the AMU Alumni Association Singapore and Dr Mustafa Izzuddin, Adjunct Senior Lecturer at USP who helped broker the prize.
With this gift, two cash prizes of S$250 each will be awarded to two graduating USP students each year, from this year onwards. It will be regardless of ethnicity or nationality, with a preference for well-rounded individuals who have demonstrated both academic excellence and reflected a strong commitment or made a significant contribution to South Asian studies and culture.
