Brief Introduction
Miguel Escobar Varela is an assistant professor in NUS and has teaching appointments in Theatre Studies at Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and University Scholars Programme (USP). Dr Varela is a web developer and theatre researcher who has lived in Mexico, The Netherlands, Singapore and Indonesia. He is also the Academic Advisor on Digital Scholarship at the NUS Libraries and convene the informal Digital Humanities Singapore group.

Dr Varela offers the following module:
Research Interests
- The performing and visual arts of Southeast Asia, primarily Indonesia
- Computational approaches to the humanities. Dr Varela collaborates with engineers and scientists to analyse large cultural datasets, primarily related to theatre in Southeast Asia.
- Interaction design. Dr Varela's interest is in designing interactive platforms for communicating humanities research.
