The University Scholars Programme (USP) has received a generous gift of $20,000 from Professor Albert Teo to establish the Albert Teo Prize which will be awarded to outstanding graduating USP students.

Currently a Professor and Acting Dean at the School of Management, Tung Wah College in Hong Kong, Professor Teo had been with USP since the start of the programme in 2000, and remains a dear friend and supporter of many USP students and alumni. Other serving as a Deputy Director (Student Life) at USP, he was also an associate professor at the NUS School of Business and the Founding Director of the Chua Thian Poh Community Leadership Centre, given his research interests in the areas of social entrepreneurship and community development.

We asked Professor Teo on his motivation for establishing this prize and his hope for the recipients:

“I decided to give to USP because a number of USP alumni have become successful business entrepreneurs and social entrepreneurs in recent years. Hopefully, my gift can encourage more USP students and alumni to consider business/social entrepreneurship as a viable career pathway.”

With this gift, one prize of S$1,000 will be awarded each year to a deserving graduating USP student, starting from Academic Year 2021. Regardless of ethnicity or nationality, the selected student would be a well-rounded individual who has not only exemplified academic excellence, but also demonstrated a strong passion for entrepreneurship or innovation in the social or business sector.

The USP community is very grateful for this meaningful gift. Thank you, Professor Teo!
