USP Student Becomes NUSSU’s Second Female President
We are happy for USP student Wee Su-Ann (Law + USP, Class of 2021) to be elected President of the NUS Students’ Union (NUSSU) 42nd Executive Committee (EXCO). She is also the second-ever female NUSSU President (and the first in 14 years).
NUS News carries a story on Su-Ann, in which you can learn more about her and her plans for NUSSU. Separately, we caught up with Su-Ann to ask about her motivation for taking up this Presidential role.
“I think it was for a very simple reason of desiring to serve the students and ensuring their interests are met. I’ve seen both sides of the coin as a previous (40th NUSSU) EXCO member and as an ordinary student, and I think it’s important to bridge that gap, and ensure that student interests are represented in our school policies.”
As a USP student, she expressed that the interdisciplinary nature of the USP curriculum has allowed her to be more creative in her problem solving and to understand the various stakeholders’ interests better. She added, “It also puts me in a better position to comment and assist with the development of the College for Humanities and Sciences that is going to be rolled out in the upcoming academic year. Being a resident in Cinnamon College (USP) also allows me to be on the ground and experience first-hand any challenges residents may face at this time!”
Heartiest congrats to Su-Ann for her new appointment and we wish her all the very best! NUS President Prof Tan Eng Chye also congratulated and featured her in his Instagram post here. We look forward to seeing her create positive impact for NUS and USP students, and the wider community.
