National Swimmer USP Student Bags Two Gold Medals at The 2019 Japan Para Championships

National swimmer USP student Toh Wei Soong (Philosophy, Politics and Economics + USP, Class of 2023) bagged two Gold medals at the 2019 Japan Para Championships. Held from 21-23 September 2019, Wei Soong – who also clinched the Sportsboy of the Year award at the Singapore Disability Sports Award in August – finished first place for the 100M S7 Freestyle and the 50M S7 Butterfly. That is such an amazing feat!

On 9-15 September 2019, Wei Soong also participated in the 2019 World Para Swimming Championships. While he had hoped to bring home an award from his first World Championships, Wei Soong is pleased to have qualified for three finals out of the five events; the 50M S7 Butterfly, 100M S7 Freestyle and 50M S7 Freestyle. Although he missed out on a podium spot, Wei Soong is determined to identity his mistakes and improve his performance before his debut at the Tokyo Paralympics next year. Let’s cheer him on! 🙂

More recently, Wei Soong, also a recent recipient of the Asia Pacific Breweries Foundation Scholarship, gave a sharing at Toyota’s Start Your Impossible Para Swimming Dialogue to “inspire youth with impairments to pick up sports and chase their dreams”. Being chosen by Toyota to champion the “Start Your Impossible” campaign, he makes a good role model to younger generation for his courageous spirit.

Heartiest congratulations, Wei Soong!
