Internships
An internship offers the opportunity for practical out-of-the-classroom training. It affords invaluable work experience and exposure and provides students a taste of working life and industry expectations.
Students in their 2nd and 3rd years of study are strongly encouraged to participate in such internships.
Industry partners
The Student Opportunities (SO) Team has tie-ups with companies, research institutes, think tanks, government organizations and NGOs.
Duration & Period of Internships
Internships are offered over the vacation periods in December (4 weeks) and May to July (8 to 10 weeks) each year. Publicity of available internships and selection of prospective interns will take place about two months before the exam periods.
Publicity
Internships availability will be publicized via email, notice boards and plasma TV bill board.
Application and Selection
Selection may be done via resume and cover letter reviews, and will usually involve an internal USP interview. Candidates shortlisted by USP may be required to attend another round of interview by industry partners.
Student’s Commitment
Students are expected to approach internships in a professional manner. At each stage of the internship process - from the submission of the application, through the selection process and right up to the internship, there are different expectations and demands. Students should be aware that each workplace differs. Generally, students should show the following :
- Positive attitude
- Punctuality
Students are USP “ambassadors” and are expected to carry themselves accordingly.
All USP interns are required to submit a brief feedback report at the end of their internships.

Career Talks & Networking Opportunities
The SO Team organizes career talks and networking sessions with our industry partners for our students. Such sessions, though small-scale, are very interactive and provide ample opportunities for organizations to mingle with students and spot promising candidates. You may just get a head-start on your career by attending these talks/ sessions!!
Career Talks
These are organized with industry partners, highlighting their recruitment / internship opportunities. Learn about the company's profile and also get an idea of the work culture of the company.
Sharing / Networking Sessions
Such sessions allow industry partners’ senior management and HR staff to interact with interested students in an informal setting. Students get to network with potential future employers, get first-hand information on job opportunities, company culture and hiring criteria.
