The residential team is divided into smaller subteams to better focus on the respective areas of needs of our residents. It also helps us come up with targeted initiatives to facilitate residential living. Each RA is part of one subteam here’s what we busy ourselves with:
Dining Hall Team – Amos, Imran
Two RAs, together with a Residential Fellow and a USC executive member, are appointed as Cinnamon Representatives on the Dining Hall Committee. We work with the other residential colleges, the Office of Housing Services (OHS) and Chartwells, our dining hall vendor, to ensure that residents' interests are taken into account by providing feedback and ensuring service providers are held accountable. We also get free food tasting at the beginning of every semester.
Events Team – Chellene, James, Sharmala, Zher Min
The Events subteam takes charge of three main projects:
- organising fun college-wide events for residents,
- supporting the USP-organised residential learning programmes in the college, such as The Rector’s Programme and Conversations@8, and
- conducting the semesterly recycling exercise, where residents might buy and donate pre-loved items when checking in and out respectively.
Publicity and Communications Team – Devesh, Jingyue, Joey, Yunjie, Abigail, Peixuan
The Publicity and Communications subteam supports the communications and outreach efforts of the RA team. We produce publicity materials for various RA events and initiatives, such as RA recruitment, neighbourhood events, and college-wide residential events. We also maintain the RA publicity spaces, such as this website and the RA pillar in the Cinnamon lobby.
Shared Spaces and Resources Team – Andy, Ayush, Jiahao, Vieshaalan, Cheng Lei
The SSR team is responsible for managing and optimising the usage of shared spaces and resources within the College. This includes common spaces like the bike shed, laundry rooms, lounges, and pantries, or other shared resources that constitute part of the overall residential experience.
Senior RAs – Abigail, Xiaowen
The senior RAs facilitate coordination and communication amongst the RAs, and between the RA team and the RFs, the USP administration, and the USC.
Semesterly Recycling (By the Events Team)
Last semester marked the flagship semester of used item collection and recycling, where RAs collected unwanted items that were still in good condition from residents checking out of college. These items were put up for grabs during check-in at the beginning of the next semester under a pay-what-you-want system, with proceeds going to the USP Student Assistance Fund.
The residential team is constantly trying to spice up residential life! We organise events of various scales and with multiple innovative themes among our floors, neighbourhoods, and sometimes even involving the whole Cinnamon community. A neighbourhood party that tests your spice tolerance, a college-wide event that features a battle of the stars, you name it!
Every semester, the RA Events team organises at least one novel event for the entire college with the aim of building community, fostering bonds and facilitating interactions among all the residents. Past events include vertical marathon, movie marathon, laser tag tournament and bubble ball competition. (for more details on past events, refer to Events & Happenings)
The RAs also work with RFs to organise weekly yoga sessions or other interesting activities to promote a fun and vibrant residential life experience.
A neighbourhood is made up of three floors. Each neighbourhood usually organizes a neighbourhood party every semester, where residents across the three floors are given an opportunity to mingle. These parties often have themes and special activities, sometimes commemorating festive seasons like Chinese New Year, Mid-autumn festival, etc, other times just thinly-veiled excuses to consume large amounts of durian.
Meet-Your-Neighbours sessions, or MYN, are short events held at the beginning of each semester. They give residents a chance to meet and socialise with their neighbours, as well as ask their RAs any questions they might have about residential living. RFs may also be present at such sessions to get to know the residents and give them some advice on residential living.
