Tufts University Annual EPIIC (Education for Public Inquiry and International Citizenship) International Symposium

Global Programme is offering the 23rd Annual EPIIC (Education for Public Inquiry and International Citizenship) International Symposium at Tufts University, Boston. The EPIIC International Symposium will be held from 21 to 24 February, and will offer an impressive array of speakers on the theme “Global Poverty and Inequality”. The Symposium is organized by Tuft University’s Institute of Global Leadership (IGL), which is a new partner of USP. The international symposium is an annual four-to-five-day public forum featuring scores of international practitioners, activists, academics, public intel14 March, 2008resentations, panel discussions, topical forums, informal gatherings, multimedia and dramatic presentations, and workshops -- are intellectually wide-ranging and accessible.

For more details, please refer to http://epiic.org/course/description.html (scroll down to see the Symposium; DO NOT confuse the Symposium with the Colloquium). With a 20-year history, EPIIC has achieved global impact. You may also wish to see details of the 2007 Symposium at http://epiic.org/symposium/2007/symposium.html to get an idea.

After the EPIIC, arrangement is being made for participants to visit the US Naval Academy at Annapolis (USNA), in the Washington DC area and the World Bank Office in Washington DC. You will have the opportunity to observe classes and interact with students at USNA, as well as the opportunity to discuss issues on poverty and development with experts at the World Bank. These opportunities are not easy to come by. We are arranging these through our relationship with Tufts’ IGL and the World Bank Singapore office. It is clearly not a touristy trip!

Closing date: Sunday, 7 January 2008

Objective of the Programme

To give students some idea of the complexities of international issues and disputes, then inspire them to get actively engaged in resolving some of those problems.
