USP Clinched the Top Achievement Award in NUS Annual Giving
USP has clinched the Top Achievement Award under the Hall/Residential College category for attaining the highest participation rate at the annual Commencement Class Giving Campaign. This award was presented to USP at this year’s Commencement Class Giving Awards on 15 August.
Spearheading the Class Giving campaign and encouraging their peers to make a class gift in support of student bursaries at their respective colleges or faculties, Class Champions cultivate a spirit of giving.
Donors could choose to donate to either of these three USP funds: the Student Assistance Fund - USP Residence, which helps financially challenged students to defray the cost of meal plan subscription while living at the USP residential college, the USP General Purpose Fund, which enables our USP Director to channel resources to where it is most needed, and the USP International Programmes Award, which was initiated by our alumni from the Class of 2015 to help deserving USP students further subsidise the cost of participating in USP international programmes.
This year, the Class Giving campaign was helmed by our passionate Class Champions Ko Chang-Ming (Political Science + USP, Class of 2019) and Shane Chen (BIZ + USP, Class of 2019).
On her experience as a Class Champion, Chang-Ming says, “When I knew that I was nominated to be USP Class Champion alongside Shane, I was surprised, but I immediately grasped the meaning behind the campaign — to ensure that our incoming juniors have a chance to experience the full USP experience, to ensure that their financial background would not be a barrier to growth and development, and to ensure that they have the opportunity to discover their untapped potential. I am also extremely thankful to my peers who donated enthusiastically (even when Shane and I were going around with iPads to ask for donations during our commencement dinner). It is because of their generosity that we managed to pull together a class gift that is not just about the amount donated, but also about our love and hope for the future of USP.”
It is this spirit of coming together to do good and making an impact that makes the USP community so unique. Kudos to all!
