USP alum Christopher Chok (History + USP, Class of 2014) has been awarded the prestigious Chevening Scholarship 2018 to pursue a Masters in Religion and Society at Durham University. He was presented this Scholarship at a ceremony on 31 July. This bond-free scholarship is awarded to outstanding professionals in their field for a one-year postgraduate course at a British university.

A History teacher at River Valley High School, Christopher said in his email to us, “I wanted to share this special moment [receiving the scholarship] with all of you [USP community] because USP has played such a formative role in my undergraduate days at NUS as well as in my teaching career at MOE. And for that, I am eternally grateful to USP — for the fantastic faculty, the ever helpful administrative stuff and the wonderful community. Thank you so so much. It is my hope that more USP students/alumni would give this scholarship a shot should they be interested in pursuing graduate studies in the UK as well as connect with other Chevening scholars around the world.”

We are very happy for Christopher and wish him the very best for his studies starting this September!

No less worthy of a mention, USP alums Mohamed Fairoz Ahmad (Sociology + USP, Class of 2006) and Poh Wei Leong (Life Sciences + USP, Class of 2005) were also past Chevening Scholarship recipients. Both studied at the University of Oxford.
