In PM Lee Hsien Loong’s New Year message delivered on 31 December 2016, he spoke about USP alum Muhammad Shamir Bin Abdul Rahim (Life Sciences + USP, Class of 2007) who started out as a molecular biologist and went on to launch his own start-up at NUS Enterprise's Blk71. His start-up Sypher Labs garnered much coverage over the years and earned him the "Young Entrepreneur of the Year" award by the Singapore Malay Chamber Of Commerce & Industry. Mr Lee lauded Shamir’s fighting spirit as a young entrepreneur, for pushing beyond his boundaries.
